Netflix Expands Into Short-Form Publisher Videos

Netflix is adding short-form publisher videos from brands like Variety and Tastemade, expanding its streaming mix with lifestyle, entertainment, and how-to content.

Netflix is broadening its content strategy with a new wave of publisher-led video partnerships, adding short-form and mid-length programming from well-known media brands. The move reflects how streaming platforms are adapting to audiences who now move fluidly between premium series, quick clips, and creator-style formats.

Beginning August 3, subscribers in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand will gain access to video content from publishers including BuzzFeed Studios, Condé Nast, Hearst Magazines, People Inc., Tastemade, and several Penske Media brands such as Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Billboard, Eater, Rolling Stone, and IndieWire.

The new lineup will span a wide range of lengths, from brief two- to three-minute pieces to videos running beyond 20 minutes. Netflix is positioning the initiative as a flexible way to test formats that are already popular on the open web, including lifestyle, food, entertainment, travel, and how-to content.

Among the planned titles are BuzzFeed Celeb's 30 Questions, Tasty Recipes, Vanity Fair's Lie Detector, AD's Walking Tour, Harper's Bazaar's Burning Questions, Billboard's 24 Hrs With, PEOPLE's My Life in Pictures, Travel + Leisure's Travel Unfiltered, and Tastemade's Struggle Meals. Netflix says more publishers will join the lineup over time.

The company has already experimented with short-form discovery through its Clips feature, but this new approach goes further by placing short videos directly inside the viewing experience rather than using them only as a bridge to longer shows. According to John Derderian, the project is designed to deepen fandom and give members more ways to stay connected with the stories and personalities they enjoy.

As viewing habits continue to evolve, this expansion suggests streaming platforms may increasingly blend premium entertainment with fast, mobile-friendly formats, shaping a more fluid future for digital storytelling.
