Microsoft's latest Patch Tuesday release brings a major security sweep, closing 966 vulnerabilities across Windows and related products. Two zero-days among the most critical fixes
One of the addressed zero-days affects the Windows Update Stack and could let an attacker gain SYSTEM-level privileges through improper link resolution before file access. Microsoft attributes discovery of the issue to Romain Deperne and the Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center.
The second zero-day involves Windows Advanced Local Procedure Call and could allow code execution inside a low-privilege AppContainer before escaping the sandbox and reaching SYSTEM privileges locally. This flaw was identified by Volexity, along with Mark Kelly, David Galazin, and Jeremy Hedges from Proofpoint.
Microsoft says the fixes span multiple vulnerability types, including privilege escalation, remote code execution, information disclosure, spoofing, and denial of service. For users, the key step remains simple: keep Windows Update enabled and install patches as soon as they arrive.
