Michelin Guide Expands to the Midwest with New Great Lakes Edition

The renowned Michelin Guide has announced a significant expansion into the Midwest with the introduction of a Great Lakes edition. This new guide will feature major cities such as Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Pittsburgh, effectively encompassing the region's culinary landscape, while Chicago will continue to be represented by its own separate Michelin Guide.

This initiative marks a continuation of Michelin's collaborations with various destination marketing organizations. As highlighted by Eater's Matthew Kang, these partnerships are designed to enhance tourism and restaurant visibility in these cities. Jerad Bachar, President and CEO of Visit Pittsburgh, expressed optimism, stating that this recognition will not only attract visitors but also bolster local hospitality employment and elevate Pittsburgh's status as a culinary hotspot for food enthusiasts.

The Michelin Guide has a rich history, having first awarded stars to French restaurants in 1926. It made its North American debut in 2005, initially recognizing establishments in New York City, San Francisco, and Chicago. In recent years, the guide has rapidly expanded across the United States, with new editions launched in the American South, Boston, Philadelphia, and the Southwest.

According to the press release, Michelin inspectors have already begun their evaluations in the designated cities, with the inaugural selections set to be revealed next year. This expansion not only highlights the growing culinary diversity in the Midwest but also signals an exciting future for food lovers in the region.
