Meta Opens Muse to Custom Hardware Projects

Meta's Muse Gadgets project gives developers open tools to connect the AI agent with custom hardware, smart home devices, displays and maker platforms.

Meta Opens Muse to Custom Hardware Projects

Meta has introduced Muse Gadgets, an open-source initiative designed to help developers connect its personal AI agent, Muse, with custom-built hardware.

The project provides open-source firmware and a Linux software development kit, allowing makers to create devices that extend Muse beyond phones and computers. Early concepts include a color e-ink display and an HDMI device that can bring the AI assistant to a television screen.

A flexible platform for makers

Muse Gadgets is designed to work with accessible developer hardware, including Raspberry Pi computers and ESP32 boards. Users can connect Muse to displays, buttons, sensors, actuators and other electronic components, creating tailored interfaces for homes, workspaces or experimental projects.

This approach gives hobbyists and developers an opportunity to explore how AI agents can interact with physical environments. Rather than limiting Muse to a chat-based experience, Meta is positioning it as a platform that can support a broader range of everyday devices.

Smart home experimentation

Meta has also demonstrated an in-house concept called Muse Home Link. Powered through USB-C, the device enables Muse to join a home network and communicate with connected products such as smart speakers and televisions.

The company produced 5,000 Home Link units for Muse subscribers while supplies last, highlighting its interest in testing AI-assisted smart home experiences with early users.

Beyond consumer use, Meta is expanding Muse into professional settings through tools for small businesses and organizations. Its broader strategy combines AI assistance, connected services and developer experimentation into a single ecosystem.

By opening Muse to custom hardware, Meta could help accelerate a future in which personal AI agents become more adaptable, tactile and naturally integrated into daily life.
