Massive Lionel Messi Statue Rises in Patagonia

A towering tribute to Lionel Messi has appeared in the Patagonian town of Cutral Có, where an artist has transformed football admiration into monumental public art. The sculpture stands about 85 feet tall, weighs 70 tons, and cost roughly $130,000 to build.

Created by artist Aldo Beroisa, the project took more than a year to complete and adds to his portfolio of large-scale works. Local officials say the installation reflects the town's ambition to turn sport into a cultural landmark that can draw attention far beyond the region.

According to the artist, the most important challenge was capturing Messi's face with precision, since the figure is instantly recognizable worldwide. The statue is now considered the largest of its kind, setting a new benchmark for oversized public tributes in contemporary art.

As sports icons increasingly inspire civic art and tourism, such landmark projects may shape how communities express identity in the future.
