Apple's macOS 27 beta is revealing more than a refreshed system update. Alongside the broader Siri AI upgrade, testers have discovered a hidden contextual menu that appears when text is selected, adding a new layer of intelligence to everyday writing tasks.
What the new menu offers
When users highlight text in macOS 27, a floating panel can appear near the selection. Hovering over it expands a set of actions such as Proofread, Rewrite, "How does this sound?", and "Edit with Siri." The assistant can also summarize content or extract key points, while some text types may trigger extra suggestions, such as creating a Calendar event from a date or showing contact details from a message.
The feature is designed to make Siri AI more context-aware, turning it into a practical companion for writing, organizing, and quick decision-making. At this stage, the menu is disabled by default in the macOS 27 developer beta and public beta builds, and it is not listed in the release notes.
How testers found it
According to early beta observations, the menu was discovered by users exploring the system's hidden settings. It can be enabled through Terminal with a feature-flag command, then activated after a restart. Apple has not positioned it as a finished release feature yet, and some beta users report that it may behave inconsistently as development continues.
Still, the discovery hints at Apple's direction: a desktop experience where AI is woven directly into writing tools, making common tasks faster, cleaner, and more intuitive. If refined further, this approach could reshape how people interact with text across future versions of macOS.
