Actor Lukas Gage is helping bring sexual health into a more open, practical conversation. In a Men's Health Lab panel, he discussed how testing, condoms and PrEP can be part of a proactive wellness routine.
Joined by NYU Langone Health infectious disease specialist Ofole Mgbako, MD, Gage spoke about the value of honesty, prevention and self-awareness. The discussion also highlighted how many people still avoid bringing up sexual health, even in medical settings.
From personal experience to public advocacy
Gage said earlier in his career he rarely had the language or confidence to discuss these topics. Over time, he began to see that openness can reduce stigma and make relationships stronger. He also shared that his memoir brought unexpected attention to his own experiences, connecting him with others who had similar stories.
Why prevention matters
Mgbako described PrEP as one of the most effective tools for lowering HIV risk, noting that both oral and injectable options are expanding access. He emphasized that prevention is only one part of the picture, but it can be a powerful step toward better long-term health.
Gage said he now sees these conversations as a sign of trust rather than discomfort, and believes that speaking clearly about sexual wellbeing can create more freedom and confidence. As awareness grows, this shift could help shape a healthier, more informed future.
