Lucid Motors Issues Recall for Gravity SUVs Over Seat Belt Concerns

Lucid Motors recalls over 4,000 Gravity SUVs due to improperly welded seat belts, emphasizing safety and quality assurance in the automotive industry.

Lucid Motors has made significant strides in addressing earlier quality concerns with its Gravity SUV, yet it has recently announced a recall affecting over 4,000 units due to a critical issue with the seat belts.

During routine safety evaluations conducted in January, the company alerted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about improperly welded anchors for the second-row seat belts. This defect poses a safety risk, as it may prevent the seat belts from adequately restraining passengers in the event of a collision.

The issue arose when Lucid's seat supplier altered its manufacturing processes without prior notification or approval from the automaker. In response, the supplier has reverted to the original design specifications set by Lucid Motors. Importantly, only Gravity SUVs manufactured before February 14, 2026, are impacted by this recall.

To ensure passenger safety, Lucid Motors plans to thoroughly inspect all affected Gravity SUVs. Depending on the weld quality, the company will either install a new bracket or replace the entire seat.

This proactive measure reflects Lucid Motors' commitment to maintaining high safety standards and enhancing customer trust in their vehicles. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, such responsive actions highlight the importance of quality assurance in modern vehicle manufacturing.
