Lio, a startup focused on streamlining enterprise procurement, has successfully secured $30 million in a Series A funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from SV Angels, Harry Stebbings, and Y Combinator. This brings Lio's total funding to $33 million. The company, co-founded by Vladimir Keil, aims to transform the procurement process, which often serves as a significant bottleneck for businesses.
Keil's firsthand experiences in navigating the complexities of procurement while working in large corporations and during his entrepreneurial journey inspired the creation of Lio. He noted the persistent manual and fragmented nature of procurement processes, stating, "Even with modern eProcurement software, most of the real work is still done manually." This realization led him and his team to develop an automated platform powered by AI agents designed to handle procurement tasks efficiently.
With the newly acquired funds, Lio plans to expand its operations across the United States and enhance the capabilities of its AI agents, which are intended to manage the entire procurement workflow for enterprise clients. Procurement plays a vital role in enterprise spending, encompassing everything from raw materials to professional services. Traditionally, this process involves multiple steps, including accessing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, managing contracts, and conducting compliance checks, all of which can be slow and labor-intensive.
Keil and his co-founders, Lukas Heinzman and Till Wagner, launched Lio in 2023 as a virtual procurement workforce. Their innovative approach departs from previous generations of procurement technology that relied heavily on human intervention. Instead, Lio's platform employs AI agents to autonomously execute procurement workflows, significantly reducing the time required for these processes.
"Processes that once took weeks can now be completed in minutes," Keil explained. In fact, Lio has already demonstrated its effectiveness by helping a global manufacturer automate 75% of its outsourced procurement operations within just six months. This efficiency not only accelerates the procurement cycle but also allows teams to focus on negotiations and strategic supplier analysis, ultimately enhancing enterprise performance.
As Lio continues to carve its niche in the market, it positions itself against established procurement software providers and consulting firms. Keil believes that by shifting the procurement function from a back-office task to a strategic lever, companies can unlock new opportunities for savings and performance improvements.
