AI cloud infrastructure company Lambda is preparing to raise up to $4 billion in new funding at a pre-money valuation of $14.5 billion, positioning the round as a major step toward its planned 2027 initial public offering.
The financing is expected to support Lambda's expanding data center network and growing demand for high-performance GPU computing. Investment firms Coatue Management and Blackstone are set to lead the round.
Growing demand for AI infrastructure
Lambda's contracted backlog reportedly rose from $15 billion in June to $50 billion in September. A significant share of this growth is linked to a major cloud computing agreement with AI company Anthropic, reflecting the increasing need for specialized infrastructure among advanced AI developers.
The company recently also secured $1 billion in senior secured financing to expand its access to computing hardware. Such capital is central to the rapid development of AI-focused cloud platforms, which require substantial investment in chips, energy systems and data center capacity.
Lambda operates in the fast-growing "neocloud" segment, where providers focus on delivering large-scale GPU resources for AI model training and deployment. Its future public listing would place it alongside other AI infrastructure companies seeking to scale data center operations through public-market investment.
As AI applications become more capable and widely adopted, Lambda's expansion illustrates how computing capacity is evolving into a foundational layer of the digital economy. The company's next phase could help shape faster, more accessible infrastructure for future AI innovation.
