Kevin Mandia, the visionary behind the cybersecurity firm Mandiant, which he founded in 2004 and later sold to Google for $5.4 billion in 2022, has embarked on a new journey with his latest startup, Armadin. This innovative venture has reportedly achieved a remarkable funding milestone, raising $189.9 million through seed and Series A rounds, led by Accel and supported by notable investors including GV, Kleiner Perkins, Menlo Ventures, 8VC, Ballistic Ventures, and the CIA's In-Q-Tel.

Armadin's funding is touted as a record for early-stage security startups, though the company has yet to disclose its valuation. While other firms have raised larger Series A rounds, such as 1Password and OneTrust, they were significantly older and already established in the market.

Before launching Armadin, Mandia served as a venture capitalist at Ballistic Ventures, a fund co-founded by renowned security investor Ted Schlein. His new venture is focused on developing autonomous cybersecurity agents--intelligent software capable of learning and responding to threats independently. Mandia has expressed concerns about the rise of autonomous AI hackers, emphasizing the urgency for advanced defensive measures.

"With AI on the offensive, we are entering a new era where technology can think, learn, and adapt," Mandia warned, highlighting that attacks which once took days could now be executed in mere minutes.

Armadin aims to empower cybersecurity professionals, providing them with automated agents to counteract the sophisticated AI-driven attacks from malicious entities. The founding team includes former experts from Google Cloud Security, Mandiant, and Google SecOps, all committed to enhancing the security landscape.
