Evian water, renowned for its purity, has its origins in 1789, sourced from the glacial rocks of Évian-les-Bain in the French Alps. The brand is commemorating its 200th anniversary with a unique collaboration featuring prominent athletes, including tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz, Emma Raducanu, and Francis Tiafoe, as well as golfer Céline Boutier, alongside the celebrated artist Jeff Koons.
Koons has designed two exclusive clear glass bottles for both still and sparkling water. The still version showcases a pink cap adorned with his iconic stainless-steel pink balloon dog, while the sparkling variant features a blue version of the same design, both elegantly wrapped in a silver ribbon.
Koons is best known for his monumental balloon dog sculptures, which first emerged in the mid-1990s as part of his acclaimed "Celebration" series. These sculptures, available in various colors, have become synonymous with his artistic identity. Notably, an orange version of the balloon dog fetched a staggering $58.4 million at a Christie's auction in 2013, setting a record for the most expensive work by a living artist.
Since 2007, Evian has partnered with various cultural icons, primarily in the fashion industry, collaborating with designers such as Christian Lacroix, Diane von Furstenberg, and Virgil Abloh. Koons marks a significant milestone as the first visual artist to join forces with the brand, further enhancing its legacy.
In his statement, Koons expressed, "I chose to incorporate my iconic Balloon Dog in the design because it not only resonates with the brand's own iconic status, but is also directly related to this celebratory, optimistic--and I believe life-giving--moment."
This collaboration not only celebrates Evian's rich history but also bridges the realms of art and lifestyle, showcasing how creative partnerships can elevate everyday products into works of art. As we look to the future, this innovative blend of art and utility may inspire more brands to explore unique collaborations, enriching our cultural landscape.
