The iRobot Roomba 505X is now available at a major discount, dropping to $499.99 from its $999.99 list price. For shoppers looking at smart home upgrades, the appeal goes beyond vacuuming and mopping in a single pass.
Designed to reduce daily upkeep
Its standout feature is the AutoWash Dock, which automates several maintenance steps after each cleaning cycle. The system empties the dust bin, refills clean water, drains dirty water, washes the mop pads, and heat-dries them, helping the robot stay ready with less manual effort.
iRobot says the 505X delivers 70 times the suction of the Roomba 600 series, while its PrecisionVision obstacle avoidance is built to navigate around cords, socks, and other common household objects. Dual spinning mop pads handle everyday grime, while a multi-surface rubber brush and edge-sweeping brush are designed for pet hair, crumbs, and dust along walls.
The robot can also lift its mop pads when moving onto carpets or rugs, making it easier to transition between hard floors and softer surfaces. Through the app, users can schedule cleanings, set no-mop zones, choose vacuum-only or mop-only modes, and direct the device to specific rooms.
It is still best viewed as a companion to traditional cleaning tools rather than a complete replacement, especially for stubborn spills. Even so, the combination of automation, mapping, and self-maintenance points to a future where home care becomes increasingly hands-off and intelligent.
