At the 61st Venice Biennale in 2026, India's pavilion explores how home is shaped by memory, distance and belonging. The exhibition, Geographies of Distance: Remembering Home, responds to the Biennale theme "In Minor Keys" through the varied landscapes and experiences associated with India.
Works draw on settings ranging from Tamil Nadu and Ladakh to Himalayan homes and Delhi's changing urban landscape. Suspended flowers evoke the place of gardens in everyday and sacred life, while bamboo canes reference building traditions and the cities emerging across older urban environments.
Curator Amin Jaffer brings together five artists to consider identity amid rapid change. The exhibition frames home not only as a physical place, but also as a sense of connection that people carry with them.
By presenting home as both landscape and lived memory, the pavilion invites audiences to reconsider how belonging may evolve across changing places and generations.
