Gunna's Running Habit Turns Fitness Into a Cultural Movement

Gunna has turned running into a wellness movement, expanding his fitness journey into community 5Ks, performance training, and a broader lifestyle shift.

Gunna, born Sergio Kitchens, has transformed running from a personal reset into a public source of momentum. What began as a way to build discipline and mental clarity during a turbulent period has become a lifestyle shift that now reaches far beyond music.

After starting to run four years ago, the Atlanta rapper says the routine sharpened his focus and changed how he approached daily life. He began arriving early, training consistently, and linking physical preparation with creative performance. For him, fitness is no longer separate from artistry; it is part of the same rhythm.

That mindset helped launch the Wunna Run 5K club, first held in Brooklyn's Prospect Park in September 2025. Since then, the initiative has expanded to cities including Toronto, Washington, D.C., Miami, Atlanta, London, Johannesburg, Houston, and Los Angeles, drawing thousands of participants. Under Armour has also joined as an official sponsor.

The project has resonated strongly with Black communities, where Gunna says fitness has often been framed too narrowly around organized sports. By opening the door to casual runners and first-timers, his events present movement as something accessible, social, and sustainable.

Gunna now trains five to six days a week with a mix of running, strength work, and boxing, often alongside trainer Dustin Enriquez. He says the routine supports his breathing, stamina, and stage presence, while also keeping his energy aligned with touring and recording.

Beyond running, he is exploring tennis and showing interest in triathlons and Hyrox, signaling a broader evolution in how artists can shape wellness culture. His growing focus on health, performance, and community points to a future where fitness and creativity move even closer together.
