Google's AI chatbot, Gemini, has reached a remarkable milestone of over 750 million monthly active users (MAUs), as revealed in the company's latest earnings report. This impressive growth highlights the swift acceptance of Gemini among consumers, establishing it as a significant contender in the AI landscape.
In the previous quarter, Gemini had 650 million MAUs, showcasing substantial progress in a short timeframe. In contrast, Meta's AI reported nearly 500 million users. While Gemini is gaining popularity, it still trails behind its closest competitor, ChatGPT, which boasted around 810 million MAUs by late 2025.
The surge in user numbers follows the launch of Gemini 3, the latest iteration of the chatbot, which is touted for its advanced capabilities and the depth of its responses. CEO Sundar Pichai noted that the introduction of Gemini 3 has been a "positive driver" for the company's growth, emphasizing the importance of ongoing investment and development to sustain this upward trajectory.
In an effort to attract more users, Google has also introduced a budget-friendly subscription plan, priced at $7.99 per month. Although this plan was launched recently and did not impact the latest quarterly figures, it is expected to appeal to cost-conscious consumers.
Philipp Schindler, Google's chief business officer, remarked during an investor call that the company is witnessing strong growth through both free and subscription tiers.
Gemini's rapid expansion is particularly noteworthy given Alphabet's overall financial performance, with the company exceeding $400 billion in annual revenue for the first time this quarter. Google attributes this achievement to the growth of its AI division, which has seen a surge in demand. The company recently unveiled its latest TPU AI accelerator chip, named Ironwood, to enhance its competitive edge against Nvidia.
Pichai concluded by stating, "The launch of Gemini 3 was a major milestone, and we have great momentum. Our first-party models, like Gemini, now process over 10 billion tokens per minute via direct API use by our customers, and the Gemini App has grown to over 750 million monthly active users. Search saw more usage than ever before, with AI continuing to drive an expansionary moment."
