Google's AI Mode Adds Information Agents for Topic-Based Alerts

Google's AI Mode now includes information agents that track topics and deliver updates, offering a more personalized way to follow news, sports, and entertainment.

Google is expanding AI Mode with a new feature called information agents, designed to monitor topics and surface updates when new details appear online. The tool is now available to some users with Google AI Ultra, with broader access expected later this summer.

The feature works like a modern version of alerts: after searching for a topic, users can ask Google to keep them updated. For example, someone following a film project, a sports tournament, or a major event can receive fresh summaries without repeating the same search.

How the feature works

Users begin in Google Search, switch to AI Mode, and enter a query as they would in a conversation with Gemini. After the answer appears, Google may offer to create an information agent. If not, users can simply request ongoing updates in natural language.

Once activated, the system is meant to send notifications through the Google app on mobile and add new entries to the original AI Mode chat. Google also keeps a history of past conversations, so users can revisit earlier searches and updates.

In practice, the experience appears to be mixed. A daily summary option seems to work more reliably than real-time alerts, making it useful for people who want a clean overview of fast-moving topics. That positions the feature as a practical companion for news tracking, especially for entertainment, sports, and culture.

As Google continues refining AI-powered search, information agents could become a more personal way to follow the topics that matter most, shaping a future where search feels increasingly proactive and tailored.
