Google Wallet Adds Supervised Balances for Kids

Google Wallet now offers parents supervised balances for kids, adding spending limits, alerts, and account controls to support safer digital money habits.

Google Wallet Adds Supervised Balances for Kids

Google Wallet is expanding its family-focused tools with a new option that lets parents create a supervised balance for children under 18. The feature is designed to support early money management while keeping family oversight simple and secure.

Parents can set daily spending limits, monitor transaction history, and receive alerts whenever a purchase is made. They also have the ability to lock or unlock the account if a device is misplaced, or pause spending temporarily with a built-in timeout control.

The update places Google Wallet closer to other family payment solutions, including Apple Cash Family, while also strengthening its position in the growing market for youth financial tools. Children can use supported Android and Wear OS devices to tap and pay wherever Google Pay is accepted, without needing a traditional bank account.

In the United States, the rollout adds another layer to Google's earlier family payment features, which already allowed supervised digital payments and access to supported passes such as tickets, library cards, and gift cards. With this step, Google is turning digital payments into a more guided learning space for younger users.

As family banking tools continue to evolve, features like this may help shape a future where financial literacy begins earlier and digital money management becomes part of everyday life.
