Google is giving its research-focused AI tool NotebookLM a new identity: Gemini Notebook. The update is designed to make the company's growing AI ecosystem easier to navigate, while keeping the product's core purpose intact.
The service will remain a standalone experience, but it is now set to work more closely across Google products, including the Gemini app and Google Search. One of the first visible changes is that notebooks will begin appearing in AI Mode in Search as reference material, expanding how users can revisit and reuse their research.
Google is also extending recent upgrades to Pro subscribers. These features were previously limited to Ultra plans and include a dedicated cloud computer for each notebook, deeper source analysis, and native code execution through Google Antigravity. Users will also be able to create and refine PDFs, charts, and slideshows with prompt-based editing.
A more connected research workspace
Gemini Notebook continues to stand apart from the main Gemini chatbot by focusing on source-driven work. Users can upload materials such as documents and videos, then ask the system to summarize, compare, and organize the content with citations. The platform also supports formats like audio podcasts, video overviews, mind maps, flashcards, and infographics.
Another recent addition is Short Video Overview, a vertical format that offers a quicker way to review summaries. Together, these updates point to a more flexible AI workspace built for learning, research, and content creation. The shift suggests a future where AI tools become more integrated, more visual, and more useful across everyday digital tasks.
