Google Pixel devices face a microphone bug that allows voicemail callers to hear users. Google is taking action by disabling the feature and investigating the issue.

Google Pixel's Audio Bug: Acknowledgment and Action

Recent reports have highlighted a concerning issue with a feature on Google Pixel devices that activates the microphone unexpectedly. Dubbed "Take a Message," this function was designed to transcribe voicemails in real-time and identify spam calls. Unfortunately, users have reported that it inadvertently allows callers to hear them while leaving a voicemail, a situation that can be quite uncomfortable.

This bug has been noted across several Pixel models, including the Pixel 4 and Pixel 5, prompting Google to take action by disabling the feature on certain older devices. The company has confirmed that the problem affects a limited number of users under specific circumstances, and they are working on a solution.

Google's Community Manager, Siri Tejaswini, mentioned that although the "Take a Message" feature is being disabled, users can still utilize manual and automatic call screening options available on their devices. This provides a level of protection against spam calls while the issue is being addressed.

Disabling the Take a Message Feature

For those who wish to take precautionary measures, disabling the "Take a Message" feature is straightforward. Users can navigate to the Phone app, access the settings, and turn off the feature under "Call Assist." This proactive step ensures that privacy is maintained while awaiting a permanent fix from Google.

As Google continues to investigate this matter, users are encouraged to remain vigilant and utilize any available call screening options provided by their carriers.
