Google has introduced the Pixel Watch 5 at its Made by Google event, pairing a more capable Gemini experience with upgraded wellness and fitness tools. The smartwatch starts at $399 and is designed to offer timely, context-aware support throughout the day.
With Gemini built in, the watch can respond to voice requests from the wrist, help find nearby places, manage timers and alarms offline, and surface useful suggestions based on message context. It can also display live updates such as flight details, arrival estimates, and reminders directly on the watch face.
On the health side, Google says the device can monitor blood pressure patterns and identify signs linked to insulin resistance by combining sensor data with machine learning. Monthly summaries will help users follow long-term trends, while a new oxygen-saturation alert can detect persistent drops and, in select European markets, trigger emergency support if needed.
Sleep tools have also been refined. Google says sleep-stage tracking is now 15% more accurate, while the new Smart Wake feature aims to rouse users at a better point in their sleep cycle. A bedtime watch face reduces distractions, and a sleep breathing metric tracks minute-by-minute changes in blood oxygen levels.
For fitness, the Pixel Watch 5 offers Google's most accurate GPS route tracking yet, with route mapping said to be twice as precise as before. The watch runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 platform, delivering 12% more CPU performance, 50% more RAM, and a claimed 20% overall speed boost. Battery life reaches up to 40 hours, and pre-orders are open ahead of an August 20 release.
By blending AI assistance with deeper health insights, the Pixel Watch 5 points toward a future where wearables become more proactive, more personal, and more integrated into everyday life.
