Google Launches AI Health Coach Subscription Service on May 19

Google has announced the launch of its AI-powered health coach, set to debut on May 19 alongside the new Fitbit Air fitness band. This innovative service will be part of the rebranded Google Health app, which aims to enhance user engagement in health and fitness.

Leveraging Google's advanced Gemini AI, the Health Coach will provide tailored insights, functioning as a fitness trainer, sleep consultant, and wellness advisor. The service has been in public preview since last year, with enhancements made based on user feedback.

The Health app will play a pivotal role in Google's fitness strategy, building on the company's acquisition of Fitbit in 2021. The app will be available globally as part of the Google Health Premium subscription, priced at $9.99 per month or $99 annually. Users with Google AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions can access this service at no additional cost.

To personalize the coaching experience, users will undergo an onboarding process, detailing their health objectives, daily routines, available exercise equipment, and any relevant injuries. This information will enable the coach to deliver customized guidance and insights.

Interaction with the coach will be seamless, allowing users to communicate in natural language to adjust their goals or provide updates. Additionally, users can log their workouts, meals, and health records through voice commands or by uploading files.

The health coach will be featured prominently in the Google Health app's Today tab. Insights generated will integrate data from various sources, including fitness metrics, sleep patterns, environmental factors, nutrition, cycle tracking, and, if permitted, U.S. medical records. Google has also redesigned features for cycle tracking, nutrition, and mental well-being within the app.

This AI-driven coach will enhance other sections of the Google Health app, offering workout suggestions in the Fitness tab, sleep tracking in the Sleep tab, and a comprehensive overview of health metrics in the Health tab.

Initially, access to the health coach will be available for select users of Fitbit and Pixel Watch devices, with broader support for other devices expected soon. Nonetheless, anyone can download the Google Health app to begin their wellness journey, and notifications will be sent to those without compatible devices when the service becomes available to them.
