Google Images gets a discovery-first redesign with AI creation tools

Google Images is shifting toward visual discovery with a Pinterest-like feed, saved collections, and AI image generation inside Search.

Google Images is entering a new phase with a redesign that shifts the experience from simple search toward visual discovery. The updated interface introduces a browsable gallery built to surface fresh ideas from across the web, while also marking 25 years since Google Images first launched.

At the center of the update is a For You feed, which adapts to a user's interests and browsing behavior. Google says the gallery refreshes in real time, creating a more fluid way to explore fashion, travel, home design, and other visual topics in one place.

Users can also organize inspiration through collections, saving images into themed tabs for later reference. That makes the platform feel closer to a creative mood board, offering a practical space for planning outfits, decorating a room, or gathering travel ideas.

Another major addition is image creation directly in Search. Through AI Overviews, Google will let users turn text prompts into custom visuals using its latest Nano Banana model. The feature is designed for moments when someone wants to visualize something specific, from a room color change to a new interior style.

The rollout begins in English on desktop in the U.S. over the coming weeks, with image generation expanding to regions that already support image creation in AI Mode. The update reflects Google's broader effort to make Search more interactive, creative, and personalized. In the future, this kind of visual discovery could reshape how people gather ideas and turn inspiration into action.
