Google Docs users who prefer a cleaner writing space can reduce Gemini's on-screen prompts with a few simple settings changes. The process focuses on two areas: the document-level Gemini panel and broader Google Workspace smart features.
How to remove the Gemini bar in Google Docs
Inside a document, open the Gemini menu in the top bar and look for bottom bar preferences. From there, you can switch off the bottom bar, which removes the AI box that appears along the lower edge of the screen.
How to limit smart features across Workspace
For a wider cleanup, go to your Gmail inbox, open Settings, and select See all settings. Scroll to the Google Workspace smart features section and choose Manage Workspace smart feature settings. There, users can disable the Workspace smart features that power prompts such as Gemini suggestions in Docs.
The menu also includes a separate option for other smart tools, including features that automatically create calendar events from travel details. Users can adjust only the tools they want to change, keeping the rest active if preferred.
With these settings adjusted, Google Docs becomes a more focused writing environment, giving users greater control over how much AI appears while they work. The shift points toward a future where productivity tools may become more customizable, adaptive, and user-led.
