A little-known landscape by Georgia O'Keeffe, kept in a New York apartment closet for decades, is set to appear at Christie's 20th Century Evening sale on November 17. Painted in 1930, "Near Abiquiu, New Mexico I" is nearly a century old.

The work depicts Lobo Peak and was created a year after O'Keeffe first visited New Mexico. It is believed to be one of three versions of the subject. Another is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, while the third is in a private collection.

The painting reflects O'Keeffe's growing interest in the high desert, with flowing contours and earthy colors that give the landscape a distinctive, almost sculptural character.

Its appearance at auction brings a lesser-known chapter of O'Keeffe's work into view, offering audiences and collectors a fresh opportunity to engage with her evolving vision of New Mexico.
