Google's AI assistant Gemini is moving rapidly toward the company's next major user milestone, with monthly usage now above 950 million. The figure places Gemini close to joining Google's elite group of products that already serve more than a billion people, including Search, Gmail, Drive, Android, YouTube and Chrome.
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said the assistant's audience has tripled compared with last year, reflecting strong momentum across both Android and iOS. Google also highlighted growing interest in newer features such as Daily Brief and the personalized agent Gemini Spark, which is now available in the U.S. and in international markets.
On the mobile side, Gemini has gained traction beyond Android, supported by launches such as the Nano Banana image generation model. Over the past 12 months, the app has been downloaded more than 137 million times on iOS, according to AppFigures.
Industry data from Sensor Tower shows the broader AI assistant market is also evolving, with Gemini's share rising to 27.7% in the first half of 2026 while ChatGPT's share slipped below 50% for the first time. At the same time, Google says AI is strengthening its core search experience, as its Q&A-style AI mode has crossed 1 billion users and continues to add value to search activity.
With faster product rollout and lower AI operating costs, Google is positioning Gemini as a central part of its next-generation digital ecosystem. The trend suggests a future where AI assistants become a standard layer of everyday computing.
