Google has introduced two new Gemini features for macOS, expanding the AI assistant's role across everyday work on Mac computers. One update focuses on faster writing, while the other gives Gemini a broader understanding of what is happening on the screen.
More natural dictation
The first feature, called intelligent dictation, is designed to make voice input smoother and cleaner. Users can press the Fn key and speak normally, while Gemini removes filler words and refines the text instantly at the cursor. Google says the tool works across any window on macOS, making it useful for drafting emails, notes, and documents with less manual editing.
Gemini gains screen awareness
The second update, known as screen-aware reasoning, lets Gemini interpret content visible on a Mac's display when users grant permission. This means the assistant can respond to tasks based on open apps, such as summarizing notes, drafting messages, or helping organize information from files and calendar-style planning requests.
Google says the feature can support more complex workflows by connecting actions across the Mac environment, rather than limiting users to a single app. That makes Gemini more flexible as a digital assistant and more capable in practical, everyday scenarios.
As AI tools become more integrated into personal devices, features like these point toward a future where computers respond less like software and more like collaborative assistants.
