Garmin Unveils Exciting New Gear-Tracking Features

Garmin enhances its gear tracking capabilities with a new app update, allowing users to track various gear and manage collections for different activities.

For those who utilize Garmin devices to monitor their runs, bike rides, and various workouts, the gear tracking feature has long been a valuable asset. It has even helped users realize the mileage they've put on their favorite running shoes. Recently, Garmin has taken this feature to the next level with a significant update, introducing a host of new gear tracking functionalities that many have been eagerly anticipating.

With this update, users can now track not only their shoes but also a wide range of gear including bikes, skis, surfboards, and even wheelchairs. This expanded tracking capability can be accessed through the Garmin Connect app, which has received a fresh set of features in conjunction with the latest software update for several Garmin devices.

Highlights of the New Garmin App Update

The Garmin Connect app, essential for syncing with various Garmin devices, has revamped its Gear section, now located under the More menu. The new features include:

  • Expanded types of gear

  • Options to add photos and notes for each gear item

  • A comprehensive database of brands and models

  • Enhanced automatic tracking capabilities

  • Ability to create "collections" of gear used together

  • Gear statistics accessible directly from the watch

Enhanced Functionality for Trail Running

Previously, Garmin allowed users to designate only one default shoe for running. The latest update now permits the selection of multiple default shoes for different activities. This means users can set a specific shoe for regular runs and another for trail runs, thus enhancing their tracking experience.

Manage Gear with Collections

Another exciting feature is the introduction of "collections," allowing users to group gear items together. For example, a cyclist can create a collection that includes their bike frame and tires. These collections can be assigned as defaults for specific activities, streamlining the tracking process.

Convenient Gear Management from Your Watch

While there isn't a comprehensive gear viewer on the watch yet, users can still view and modify their gear settings for each activity. By selecting an activity, users can easily see and change the default gear assigned, ensuring they have the right equipment logged for their workouts.
