Garmin has introduced Garmin Epic, a digital journal feature designed to bring workouts, routes, personal notes and wellness data into one timeline. While it can help users document a major outdoor journey or sporting event, the tool also offers a practical new way to review long-term training progress.
Available through the Garmin Connect app, Epic lets athletes collect activities from a chosen period in one place. The timeline can combine total distance, calories, activity records and selected health indicators, including sleep scores, resting heart rate and heart rate variability status.
A clearer view of training cycles
Each Epic can cover up to 92 days, making it well suited to a typical 12- to 13-week running, cycling or endurance training block. Instead of evaluating individual sessions in isolation, users can follow how overall volume, recovery and subjective feelings evolve across an entire preparation period.
Daily notes add a personal layer to the numbers. Athletes can record details such as energy levels, sleep quality or how demanding a workout felt, helping them connect measurable patterns with their own experience.
From training camps to future goals
The feature can also be used retrospectively. Past activities may be grouped into an Epic after a race, training camp or seasonal build, allowing users to review what supported their performance and what they may want to adjust next time.
Garmin Epic also supports future planning, with users able to schedule up to five upcoming timelines as far as 366 days ahead. This could make it easier to organize base phases, race preparation periods, recovery blocks and personal fitness goals within a single view.
By transforming fragmented fitness records into a more connected story, Garmin Epic reflects a growing shift toward context-driven training. In the future, tools that unite performance data with personal reflection may help more people build sustainable and informed exercise habits.
