A four-week fitness challenge gave journalist Andrew Gutman a fresh way to approach strength training and daily habits. After following Men's Health's 28-Day Belly Fat Burner program, he reported losing 13 pounds and three inches from his waist. His results reflect one person's experience, not a guaranteed outcome.
A short, full-body training schedule
Designed by strength coach David Otey, the plan called for five sessions each week, with workouts lasting 20 to 30 minutes. It alternated between two groups of routines, using supersets and circuit-style training to work major muscle groups through compound lifts, alongside some core and arm exercises.
The program encouraged gradual progression: Gutman aimed to add repetitions or increase the weight over time. He also tracked his sets and loads, helping him measure progress and keep sessions focused.
Training paired with everyday habits
Alongside the workouts, Gutman increased his protein intake, walked 15,000 to 20,000 steps a day, continued recreational martial arts and kickboxing, and aimed for seven hours of sleep. He also described keeping meals and activity consistent as part of his broader approach.
He said the varied routines made training more engaging and helped him stay motivated. His account highlights how a clear schedule, progressive exercise and sustainable daily habits can work together. More personalized, time-efficient fitness plans may help people build routines that fit their lives and support long-term consistency.
