Figma Teams Up with OpenAI to Enhance Codex Integration

Figma collaborates with OpenAI to integrate Codex, enhancing design and coding workflows for users, fostering creativity and efficiency in the process.

Figma Teams Up with OpenAI to Enhance Codex Integration

Figma has announced a collaboration with OpenAI to incorporate the AI coding tool, Codex, into its platform. This innovative integration enables users to seamlessly create and modify designs directly within their coding environments. This partnership follows a recent agreement with Anthropic to integrate Claude Code, showcasing Figma's commitment to enhancing design and coding workflows.

The integration allows users to initiate their work in Figma or Codex and transition smoothly between the two platforms via Figma's Mobile Context Protocol (MCP) server. Previously, users could import elements from Figma design files, Figma Make, or FigJam into Codex for coding purposes.

"This integration empowers teams to expand on their best ideas--not just their initial concepts--by merging the strengths of coding with the creativity and collaboration that Figma's infinite canvas offers," stated Loredan Crisan, Figma's Chief Design Officer.

Alexander Embiricos, the product lead for Codex, emphasized that this integration broadens the tool's applicability for a diverse range of creators and businesses. "Codex becomes more powerful as it doesn't limit users to being strictly 'designers' or 'engineers.' Engineers can visually iterate without disrupting their workflow, while designers can engage more closely with actual implementation without needing to become full-time coders," he explained.

OpenAI originally launched Codex as a command-line coding assistant to compete with Claude Code. Subsequently, they integrated Codex into ChatGPT and recently released a dedicated MacOS application for Codex, which saw over a million downloads within its first week. This rapid adoption highlights the growing interest in AI-assisted coding tools.

OpenAI has also introduced two new Codex models shortly after the MacOS app launch, with reports indicating that over a million users engage with Codex on a weekly basis. Figma has been a key partner for OpenAI, having been among the first to launch an application within ChatGPT in October 2025, further solidifying their collaborative efforts in advancing design and coding technologies.
