Sequoia-backed Empirik has emerged from incubation with a fresh mission: helping infrastructure teams spot outages before they unfold. The startup, founded by former Sequoia technology leaders Avon Puri and Sudheer Dhurjati, uses AI to monitor system changes and estimate how those shifts could affect complex environments.
Built around the idea of proactive observability, Empirik is designed to move teams away from reacting after incidents and toward anticipating them earlier. The platform evaluates dependencies across infrastructure, then highlights which updates are low risk, which need guardrails, and which should be reviewed by humans.
Earlier this year, Sequoia brought in Kartik Chandrayana as CEO, and the company has now raised $21 million in seed funding from Sequoia, Canapi, and Alumni Ventures as it spins out into an independent business.
Empirik says its system is already being used by organizations ranging from startups to large enterprises, including S&P Global and Guardant Health. Its broader goal is to give DevOps and site reliability teams more automation, so they can spend less time on routine troubleshooting and more time on strategic work.
As AI continues to reshape software creation, tools like Empirik point to a future where infrastructure management becomes more predictive, adaptive, and resilient.
