Rich Wells, an artist based in Sheffield, skillfully blends an assortment of photos, videos, and sounds to create dynamic collages that embody the spirit of various locations. His work reflects his journeys to diverse landscapes and landmarks, ranging from scenic bike rides across the U.K. to the comfort of his own kitchen table.
"I truly relish the creation of these collages--venturing into the world to encapsulate the essence of being in a place," Wells shares. "I envision myself as a Victorian photographer capturing long exposures, yet more often than not, I'm simply recording the ground with my iPhone."
Utilizing Adobe After Effects, Wells meticulously extracts shapes from images and drawings, merging them with video and audio to form what he refers to as "looping worlds." Each clip, lasting around ten seconds, creates a mesmerizing blend of perpetual motion and serves as an animated time capsule of a specific moment.
Wells expresses, "In these challenging times, I create art to inspire myself to look up and appreciate my surroundings, and I hope they motivate others as well." Together with his partner Bryony Wells, he co-founded the creative studio Make Better, showcasing a commitment to innovative artistic expression.
