The Sony World Photography Awards has reached its 19th edition, attracting over 430,000 entries from photographers across more than 200 countries and territories. This prestigious competition showcases a diverse range of works, featuring ten categories that include portraiture, landscapes, and travel, all reflecting the stunning beauty of our world as captured in 2025.
This year's winners have been announced, with notable highlights such as Robby Ogilvie's striking image of a vintage car set against the vibrant backdrop of the Bo-Kaap neighborhood in Cape Town, South Africa. Another standout is Klaus Hellmich's breathtaking portrait of an arctic fox facing a fierce blizzard.
The Open competition celebrates exceptional single images from the past year, emphasizing the ability of a single photograph to ignite curiosity, inspire creativity, and tell a broader story. The announcement for the overall Open Photographer of the Year will take place on April 16 in London, coinciding with the opening of the exhibition at Somerset House, which will be available for public viewing until May 4.
Among the shortlisted works, Lisa Skelton's captivating underwater shot of a seal, and Brian Arancibia's portrayal of a child in traditional Andean attire on horseback, exemplify the rich diversity of talent in this year's competition.
