Discover Nick Groth's Commitment to Empowering Wisconsin Farmers

Nick Groth, an agronomist with Syngenta, shares his insights on supporting Wisconsin farmers, highlighting his commitment to innovation and problem-solving in agriculture.

Nick Groth, an agronomic service representative for Syngenta Crop Protection, is dedicated to supporting farmers across Wisconsin. With a background in agronomy and soil science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, along with a master's degree from Iowa State University, Groth brings extensive knowledge to his role. His previous experience in agricultural retail has further enriched his expertise.

As a member of the Successful Farming Crop Crew, Groth collaborates with fellow agronomists to provide real-time insights during the growing season. In a recent discussion, he reflected on his agricultural roots and his approach to working with growers.

Starting His Journey in Agronomy

NG: "My journey into agronomy began with my grandparents, who were both involved in farming. Spending time on their farms in Minnesota instilled in me a deep appreciation for agriculture." After earning his degree, Groth worked in retail for eight years while pursuing his master's degree, which he completed in 2021. He joined Syngenta in January 2020.

Engaging with Growers

NG: "I cover the entire state of Wisconsin, collaborating closely with sales representatives and AgriEdge reps." His engagement with farmers includes training events at Syngenta's research facilities, known as "Grow More Experience" sites, where he conducts trials and training sessions. In the offseason, Groth leads classroom training to share insights from the previous growing season.

During the summer, he often addresses product performance inquiries and potential crop issues, enjoying the opportunity to solve problems directly on the farms. "It's rewarding to apply my expertise in real-time," he noted.

Passion for Problem-Solving

NG: "My favorite aspect of the job is simplifying complex challenges like weed and disease management. Waterhemp control has been a significant focus throughout my career, requiring continuous adaptation." Groth believes that Syngenta has successfully positioned products to meet the evolving demands of farmers.

Balancing Challenges

NG: "One major challenge is balancing effective pest management with the current economic constraints faced by growers." This delicate equilibrium is a common concern among retailers, manufacturers, and farmers alike.

Family and Personal Insights

NG: "Outside of agronomy, I prioritize my family, especially during the busy summer months." Groth's upbringing in farming has shaped his perspective, giving him a unique understanding of the industry. He emphasizes the importance of using Syngenta's resources to create practical solutions based on evidence rather than mere sales pitches.

Groth's commitment to empowering Wisconsin farmers reflects a vision for a sustainable agricultural future, where collaboration and innovation drive success in the face of challenges.
