Deezer has introduced Remix Lab, a new in-app feature that lets listeners rework songs with the permission of artists and rights holders. The platform says creators are also paid for every stream of these remixed versions.
Available on select artist pages, the tool offers hands-on editing options such as tempo changes, reverb, and more advanced style shifts. Deezer says the experience is designed around human creativity rather than AI-generated remixing.
The company has also positioned itself as a strong supporter of artist control in streaming. It recently added a system that identifies AI-generated tracks and removes them from recommendations and editorial playlists.
Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier says the feature is meant to deepen the connection between fans and music while keeping artists fully involved in the creative process. The first rollout is taking place in France, with plans to expand later.
Users can currently remix tracks from selected French artists, including Céline Dion, Alain Souchon, Alonzo, Ronisia, Mosimann, Tiakola, and Zaho. Deezer is also running remix contests through Deezer Club, with winners set to receive playlist placement, event tickets, and artist merchandise.
If the feature gains momentum, it could help shape a more collaborative future for streaming, where fan creativity and artist rights move forward together.
