As AI-generated music becomes increasingly prevalent on streaming platforms, questions surrounding copyright usage and potential fraud are gaining attention. In response, Deezer has stepped forward with a groundbreaking solution.
Deezer has unveiled a new tool designed to scan playlists across various music streaming services to detect AI-generated tracks. Announced recently, this free online AI music detector supports 27 languages and allows users from 20 popular platforms to check if their playlists contain any AI-generated songs.
This initiative positions Deezer as a leader in the music industry's response to AI music, potentially enhancing its appeal to consumers. Unlike competitors such as Apple Music and Spotify, which have opted for tagging systems, Deezer actively removes AI tracks from recommendations and excludes them from editorial playlists. Moreover, the company has begun offering its AI detection technology to other platforms, further solidifying its stance.
Using the new tool is straightforward: users visit Deezer's AI music detector website, select their streaming service, and grant Deezer access to their playlists. Once the playlists are imported, the service scans for AI content, alerts users to any findings, and allows them to share the results. The tool is compatible with major platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and YouTube Music.
"By detecting and tagging AI-generated music over the past year and a half, Deezer has been at the forefront of transparency in music streaming. No other company has followed our lead yet, so we decided to make it possible for everyone to check if their playlists include synthetic music, no matter which streaming platform they use," stated CEO Alexis Lanternier.
Deezer is also contemplating future strategies, such as updating supplier policies or removing certain content, following in the footsteps of other platforms that have taken a stand against AI music. This comes after Deezer reported that a remarkable 44% of new music uploaded to its platform is AI-generated, with nearly 75,000 AI tracks being added daily.
Despite this surge, the listening rates for AI-generated music remain modest, constituting only 1-3% of total streams, with around 85% of these flagged as fraudulent and subsequently demonetized by the platform.
As Deezer continues to innovate in the realm of music streaming, its proactive measures could pave the way for a more transparent and trustworthy music industry, shaping how listeners engage with AI-generated content in the future.
