DeepL acquires Mixhalo to expand into live-event audio streaming and real-time translation, strengthening its voice technology and U.S. presence.

DeepL Expands Into Live Event Translation With Mixhalo Acquisition

DeepL is widening its reach beyond text translation by acquiring Mixhalo, a company known for real-time audio delivery at conferences, concerts, and sports events. The move brings live-event translation and listening tools into DeepL's growing language technology portfolio.

Founded in 2016 by Mike Einziger, Ann Marie Simpson-Einziger, and Vik Singh, Mixhalo began with a focus on improving the audio experience for concertgoers. Over time, it evolved into a platform used for real-time sound at large-scale live events, supported by more than $39 million in funding.

DeepL has been steadily building its voice capabilities. In 2024, the company introduced voice-to-text translation in more than 33 languages, followed by a voice-to-voice suite in April designed for multilingual meetings. With Mixhalo, DeepL can now extend those tools into physical venues where audiences need instant, clear translation on site.

DeepL CEO Jarek Kutylowski said the acquisition also serves as a practical showcase for the company's technology in real-world environments such as conferences. Mixhalo, which already used DeepL as its main translation provider, will help strengthen that connection between product development and live audience experiences.

The deal also supports DeepL's U.S. expansion, including a new Bay Area office in San Francisco. As live translation becomes more seamless, events may become more accessible across languages, shaping a future where communication feels increasingly immediate and borderless.
