Debra Wimpfheimer Appointed as Executive Director of Queens Museum

Debra Wimpfheimer has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the Queens Museum, bringing extensive experience and a commitment to cultural diversity and community engagement.

In a recent announcement, the Queens Museum revealed that Debra Wimpfheimer, a native of Queens, has been appointed as the new Executive Director, effective this summer. This decision comes shortly after the departure of Sally Tallant, who has led the museum for seven years. Wimpfheimer, who is currently the museum's deputy director, has dedicated over two decades to various leadership roles within the institution.

As Tallant transitions to her new position at the Southbank Centre's Hayward Gallery in London, Wimpfheimer will take charge of several ongoing initiatives at the Queens Museum. She has already played a pivotal role in fundraising for the museum's expansion, which aims to introduce a new children's museum, an outdoor play area inspired by Isamu Noguchi, facilities catering to older adults in the community, and additional exhibition galleries.

Wimpfheimer has previously served as interim director on two occasions prior to Tallant's exit, first stepping in for nine months in 2014 and again in 2018. Her experience also includes administrative positions at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

"Queens is renowned for its cultural diversity, and as Executive Director, I am dedicated to making the museum a vibrant and welcoming space for both artists and visitors," Wimpfheimer stated in a press release.
