The Dallas Art Fair will relocate from downtown to Southern Methodist University (SMU) for its 2027 edition, taking over the university's 67,000-square-foot Armstrong Fieldhouse. The fair is scheduled to run from April 15 to 18.
The new venue's high ceilings, natural light and open layout will provide galleries with more room for large-scale installations and ambitious displays. Organizers also plan to introduce educational initiatives, internships and other programs connecting students and faculty with artists, galleries and collectors.
The partnership will bring the fair closer to SMU's Meadows School of the Arts, Meadows Museum and arts-related academic programs. It is also the first major initiative of the university's newly established Dallas Office, created to strengthen its ties with the city.
Founded in 2009, the fair has become a fixture of Dallas's cultural calendar. Its foundation has raised nearly $3 million for local arts institutions, and an acquisition fund created with the Dallas Museum of Art has supported the purchase of more than 75 works. The Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center and Dallas Contemporary will continue to benefit from the opening gala.
By combining expanded exhibition space with university programs and local partnerships, the move could deepen Dallas's connections between contemporary art, education and the wider cultural community.
