Creative Summer Marathons at the New York Studio School

The New York Studio School recently hosted its innovative Marathon program, a two-week intensive designed to immerse participants in various techniques of drawing and painting. This unique experience is available in both virtual and in-person formats, allowing artists to engage deeply with their craft from 9 AM to 6 PM daily, culminating in insightful critiques each evening.

Led by the school's esteemed faculty and notable visiting artists, the Marathon encourages students to explore new artistic avenues with enthusiasm and determination. Participants are not only challenged to confront the intricacies of their art but also to engage in stimulating discussions and receive personalized feedback from peers and instructors alike. The program is open to artists at all skill levels, fostering a diverse learning environment.

For those unable to attend in person, the Virtual Marathons offer an exceptional opportunity for artists globally. Conducted through platforms like Zoom and Padlet, these sessions replicate the immersive experience of traditional Marathons, enabling participants to connect with their instructors and fellow artists from the comfort of their own studios.

As one participant, Kareem Johnson, expressed, "The Marathon was unlike any experience I've had and not something I will soon forget. It was important for my progress and validation as an artist. I leveled up and I'm ready to tackle subjects that I was reluctant to in the past." This sentiment reflects the transformative impact of the program on its attendees.

Another participant, Gregg Rosen, shared, "The Marathon opened my mind to new ways of seeing and conceiving of space and the different relationships that make up a composition." This highlights how the program not only enhances technical skills but also fosters a deeper understanding of artistic concepts.

For those interested in further exploring their artistic potential, the New York Studio School offers a range of programs, including full-time Virtual Certificate options and Evening & Weekend Classes. The school also hosts free public lectures and exhibitions, making art education accessible to a broader audience.
