kurimanzutto has announced the appointment of Corinna Durland as the new senior director of its New York gallery. This strategic move aims to enhance the gallery's influence in the United States while expanding its international connections.

Based in New York, Durland will work closely with the founders and partners of kurimanzutto, focusing on strengthening the gallery's programming. This appointment comes as the gallery continues to grow its footprint in the city, having launched a project space in 2018 and establishing a permanent location on West 20th Street in 2022.

Durland expressed her enthusiasm about joining the gallery at a pivotal time, stating that she is excited to contribute to its evolution and the broader cultural landscape. She emphasized the importance of the gallery's integrity and artist-centered approach, which she believes are essential for navigating the current art world.

With over two decades of experience in the art sector, Durland has a rich background working with artists, estates, collectors, and institutions. Prior to this role, she served as senior director at Schwartzman& and was vice president and director of advisory at Art Agency, Partners, where she provided strategic guidance to artists and collectors alike. She also has a history of leading international public art initiatives.

Durland's career includes significant roles, such as over ten years as senior director at Gavin Brown's enterprise in New York, where she played a crucial role in shaping artists' careers. She began her journey in the art world at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

José Kuri, co-founder of kurimanzutto, highlighted the gallery's long-term vision in making this appointment. He expressed excitement about collaborating with Durland, noting her strong relationships with artists and her proven professional integrity. Kuri praised her extensive experience in public art, institutions, and her connections with collectors and artist estates as invaluable assets.

As kurimanzutto deepens its engagement in New York, Kuri emphasized the necessity of having someone who understands the city's unique art ecosystem. He believes this is the perfect moment to invest in meaningful relationships within the art community.

Founded in Mexico City, kurimanzutto aims to create a vibrant dialogue between its New York space and its roots, rather than merely serving as a satellite location. Under Durland's guidance, the gallery plans to pursue ambitious projects, enhance institutional collaborations, and support artists across borders, fostering cultural conversations between Mexico and the United States.
