Comcast has introduced a new Wi-Fi Motion feature for its newer Xfinity gateways, turning compatible home routers into basic motion sensors. The system can alert users through the Xfinity app when it detects activity inside the home while they are away.
The feature is available on XB7 and newer models and must be enabled manually in the app, giving customers control over whether they want to use it. Comcast positions the tool as a simple layer of home awareness for connected households.
At the same time, the feature comes with a clear privacy consideration. Comcast states that information generated by Wi-Fi Motion may be shared with third parties in certain circumstances, including legal or law-enforcement requests, disputes, or court orders. That makes the setting especially relevant for users who value tighter data control.
As smart home devices continue to evolve, features like this point toward a future where everyday connectivity can also support more responsive and intelligent home protection.
