Clayton Young's Innovative Training for the 2028 Olympics

As the countdown to the 2028 LA Summer Olympics begins, athletes are ramping up their training regimens to secure a spot on the team. Among these dedicated competitors is Clayton Young, a prominent American long-distance runner. At 32 years old, Young made a notable Olympic debut in 2024, finishing ninth in the Men's Marathon with an impressive time of 2:08:44.

Young has set his sights firmly on the upcoming Olympics, expressing to Men's Health, "My biggest goals right now are to do everything I can to prepare for the LA 2028 Olympic Games. It's all about gaining confidence and preparing for major marathons where I'll face top competitors."

Building on his previous performance, Young has already made significant strides, recently completing the 2025 Boston Marathon in just 2:07:04, a full minute faster than his Olympic time. This year, he plans to participate in Boston again, aiming to improve further under a new partnership with Brooks.

Young emphasizes that while long runs are essential for marathon training, his success can also be attributed to a robust strength training program. He notes, "This focus has not only enhanced my speed and efficiency but has also helped me maintain my health, allowing me to consistently run over 130 miles per week."

As he prepares for the upcoming races, Young's training regime includes a variety of workouts designed to enhance both strength and endurance. His regimen consists of running drills, sled pushes, and various strength exercises aimed at optimizing performance on race day.

Young's dedication and innovative approach to training exemplify the spirit of perseverance and excellence in athletics. His journey not only inspires fellow runners but also highlights the evolving strategies in sports training that could shape the future of competitive running.
