Claude Code Introduces Innovative Voice Mode for Developers

Anthropic has unveiled a new feature for its AI coding assistant, Claude Code, known as Voice Mode. This enhancement represents a pivotal advancement towards facilitating hands-free and conversational coding experiences for developers.

Thariq Shihipar, an engineer at Anthropic, shared the gradual rollout of this feature on social media, indicating that it is currently available to approximately 5% of users, with plans for a wider launch in the upcoming weeks.

Voice Mode allows users to communicate with Claude Code using spoken commands, significantly simplifying the coding process. To activate this feature, users can type /voice, enabling them to issue commands verbally, such as "refactor the authentication middleware."

While the excitement surrounding this new capability grows, specific details regarding its limitations, such as possible restrictions on voice interactions or technical constraints, remain unclear. Furthermore, it is yet to be confirmed whether this feature was developed in collaboration with any third-party AI voice providers.

This isn't the first time Anthropic has introduced a voice feature; last May, the company launched Voice Mode for its standard Claude chatbot, allowing users to engage with the model for various general tasks through voice commands.

As competition in the realm of AI coding assistants intensifies, with notable players like Microsoft's GitHub Copilot and Google also in the mix, Claude Code has emerged as a leading tool among developers. Recently, Anthropic reported that Claude Code's run-rate revenue has soared past $2.5 billion, more than doubling since early 2026, with a significant increase in weekly active users.

Additionally, Claude's mobile application has experienced remarkable growth, particularly after the company's decision to decline the Department of Defense's request to use its AI for domestic surveillance and autonomous weaponry. Following this stance, the app climbed to the top of the U.S. App Store charts, surpassing competitors like ChatGPT.
