Anthropic is introducing Personal Finance, a beta feature that lets users connect bank and credit card accounts to Claude through Plaid. The assistant can answer questions about balances and transactions in everyday language, while its access is limited to viewing information: it cannot move, manage or invest money.
Users can ask where their money went over a given period and see spending grouped into categories such as housing, food and shopping. Follow-up questions can compare spending with usual patterns. Claude can also identify possible duplicate charges, unexpected fees and bills that have gradually increased.
The tool supports broader queries, including whether a user is spending more than they earn, and can explain financial terms such as APR. It can also calculate interest paid over the past year. Anthropic says the feature has no ads or sponsored recommendations and does not promote its own financial products.
Connected-account information may include the bank and account names, account type, final four digits, balances, credit limits and up to two years of transaction history. Anthropic also says conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models.
The beta is beginning to roll out this week to subscribers on Claude's Pro, Max and Ultra plans in the U.S. As AI tools gain access to personal financial data, features like this may make everyday money decisions easier to understand while keeping privacy and clear limits central to their design.
