French filmmaker Claire Denis will direct the 32nd chapter of Miu Miu Women's Tales, the brand's long-running short-film series. The new work, titled "Avec Kim", is set to premiere on September 5 at the upcoming Venice Film Festival.
Denis described filmmaking as a way to move beyond explanation, calling it "a journey into the impossible." Her new project continues the series' tradition of pairing fashion with distinctive cinematic voices.
Born in Paris in 1946, Denis spent part of her childhood in colonial French Africa, an experience that has deeply informed her visual language. Her films are known for their layered storytelling, sensual atmosphere, and recurring themes of desire, distance, and identity.
She first drew major international attention with "Chocolat" in 1988, followed by acclaimed titles such as "Beau Travail" and "35 Shots of Rum." More recently, her work has included "High Life," "Both Sides of the Blade," and "Stars at Noon," which won the Grand Prix at Cannes in 2022.
Since its launch in 2011, Miu Miu Women's Tales has become a platform for creative experimentation, inviting filmmakers to explore short-form storytelling with a strong artistic signature. Denis now joins a roster that includes Alice Diop, Joanna Hogg, Agnès Varda, Miranda July, and others.
As the series continues to connect cinema, fashion, and authorship, it may help shape a future where short films play an even larger role in global cultural storytelling.
