Christie's is preparing to present a major modernist art sale titled "Radiant Modernism", bringing nearly 600 works from a single private European collection to market across several auction dates. The first session is set for October during Frieze London.
The collection is expected to draw strong attention, with Christie's placing its combined estimate at between $40 million and $60 million. While the seller remains unnamed, the breadth of the group signals a carefully assembled collection with international appeal.
Among the highlights are several paintings by Paul Signac, the French artist whose luminous Pointillist technique helped define a new visual language in late 19th-century painting. One standout work, Sainte-Anne (Saint-Tropez) from 1905, carries a high estimate of £6.5 million and will be offered in London on October 14.
The timing adds another layer of visibility, as London's Royal Academy of Arts is currently exploring the French Riviera's influence on art, while the painting's provenance connects it to collector Gustave Fayet, now being examined in Paris at the Fondation Louis Vuitton.
Another Signac, Saint-Briac, les balises from 1890, will appear in Christie's New York season in November. The sale also includes works by Josef Albers, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Odilon Redon, and Lyonel Feininger, reinforcing the auction's wide modernist scope. As interest in landmark collections continues to grow, this sale may help shape how modern art is valued and rediscovered in the years ahead.
