Chevrolet's Silverado EV is designed to bring full-size pickup capability into the electric era, and on paper it checks nearly every box. It offers a large bed, a spacious cabin, a roomy front trunk, more than 400 miles of range, and the ability to power a home when needed.
On the road, the truck feels surprisingly refined for its size. The ride is quiet, the seating is comfortable, and rear-wheel steering helps it move through tight spaces with more agility than its nearly 20-foot length suggests. Inside, the Google-based infotainment system is quick and intuitive, while physical climate and volume controls add a welcome layer of usability.
GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving system also stands out, especially in heavy traffic, where it reduces stress during long commutes. The Silverado EV's battery pack and chassis tuning help deliver a smooth drive, and its efficiency remains competitive for such a large vehicle.
Still, sales have lagged behind expectations. The challenge appears to be less about capability and more about market hesitation around electric pickups, including concerns about charging, range, and everyday practicality. GM may have built a convincing first-generation electric truck, but the broader buyer shift is still taking time.
Looking ahead, GM's planned battery advances could lower costs and make the Silverado EV more accessible. If that happens, it may help define the next phase of electric trucks and reshape expectations for what a modern pickup can be.
