OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT has achieved a remarkable milestone, reaching 900 million weekly active users. This impressive growth positions the AI chatbot just shy of hitting the 1 billion mark. Additionally, the company reported that it now boasts 50 million paying subscribers.
In a recent blog post, OpenAI highlighted the surge in subscriber numbers, noting that January and February are on track to be the largest months for new subscribers in the company's history. "People utilize ChatGPT for various purposes such as learning, writing, planning, and building," the post stated. As the user base expands, enhancements to the product are evident, offering users faster responses, increased reliability, improved safety, and consistent performance.
This latest figure marks a significant increase of 100 million users from the 800 million reported in October 2025. OpenAI's announcement coincided with news of its recent funding achievement, having raised $110 billion in one of the largest private funding rounds ever. This funding includes a substantial $50 billion investment from Amazon, along with $30 billion each from Nvidia and SoftBank, all at a pre-money valuation of $730 billion. The funding round remains open, with expectations for additional investors to join.
